Under general supervision and using moderate latitude for independent judgment, perform routine engineering work that includes: designing, planning, overseeing work in support of construction, maintenance, alteration of structures, facilities, processes, equipment, and systems.

Position Salary

$31.47 - $51.64, commesnurate

Travel:
If you are selected for this position and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.

Position Minimum Experience

This position will be filled at one of the following levels:

Graduate Engineer B:
Bachelor's degree in an appropriate engineering discipline with at least two (2) years of engineering experience.

Licenses and Certifications Required:
Texas: Engineer - In Training Certification.

Engineer A:
Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job, plus four (4) years engineering experience acquired either before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer

Licenses and Certifications Required:
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Texas

Engineer B:
Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to engineering, plus six (6) years experience in engineering, acquired either before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer.

Licenses and Certifications Required:
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Texas

Engineer C:
Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job, plus eight (8) years engineering experience acquired either before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer.

Licenses and Certifications Required:
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Texas

Scope of Responsibilities

Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned:

1.Prepare and maintain design drawings, diagrams, charts, databases plans and permits under the supervision of a professional engineer. Development of proposals for impacts and performing preliminary and final designs and/or prepares design criteria for assigned projects.

2.Prepare specifications as it relates to the standardization and engineering policies and practices. Reviews and provides recommendations in the evaluation and implementation for job safety procedures.

3. Prepares design criteria for assigned projects. Provides assistance in technical and financial inputs for project budget process.

4.Plan for and size equipment.

5.Review plans and development proposals for impacts, and perform preliminary and final designs for PE review.

6.Assist in the preparation of standards, equipment specifications, design procedures, test procedures.

7.Coordinates and provides a variety technical information under the guidance of a professional engineer to customers by contacts with personnel to include inter and intra departmental administrative, engineering and construction personnel, other government agencies, contractors, consultants and the public to exchange information, coordinate work, answer questions and respond to complaints.

8.Use computerized software programs, ink or pencil drafting to prepare drawings and maps to provide technical advice and guidance to assigned work or project.

9.Prepare cost estimates/track expenditures, prepares cost estimates and engineering and feasibility reports and studies for projects. Prepares and/or provides assistance with preliminary contract documents, specifications and plans. Assists in the preparation of final plans, specifications, special conditions and agreements and coordinates and oversees work of contractors, affected public agencies and utilities. Provides assistance with technical specifications for construction contracts. Inspects and monitors projects for compliance by reviewing work completed by contractors and monitoring compliance to specifications.
