Desalination of Produced Water

October 27th 2026 1

This session will explore the technology, operational challenges, and regulatory considerations associated with deploying treatment systems capable of producing up to 20 million gallons per day for industrial cooling, land application, and beneficial discharge to surface waters. Topics will include lessons learned from large-scale pilots, emerging NPDES and land application permitting pathways, treatment and monitoring requirements, workforce and operational considerations, and the potential role of treated produced water in meeting the Permian Basin’s growing demand for raw water and supporting regional economic development. The session will also discuss the challenges industry and regulators must address as a complex, first-of-its-kind technology moves from pilot projects to full-scale operation and must consistently deliver exceptionally high-quality effluent.
