Synopsis

This presentation will provide an overview of the current state of cybersecurity in the water/wastewater industry. Speaker Mauro Perez, IT Director of Signature Automation, will describe recent attacks that have plagued utilities throughout the country and the operational and financial impacts they experiences. He will also describe several security philosophies that utilities across the state are implementing, with an emphasis on the technologies that can be deployed to further harden their systems. The objective of this presentation is to emphasize that there is no single solution when it comes to security, but there are several alternatives that should be considered to meet specific needs.

Mr. Perez is the Information Technology (IT) Director for Signature Automation, where he provides consultancy to the firm's clients in various markets related to overall network assessments, planning, and design, with an emphasis on ensuring a strong cybersecurity posture. His experiences overlap networks related to both Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT), providing him with a unique perspective to help guide solutions for water/wastewater utilities.

Throughout his 25+ year career, Mr. Perez has provided IT Consulting services for a myriad of clients inclusive of legal and medical service providers; oil and gas; manufacturing; food and beverage; city municipalities, police departments, fire departments, public works, and water/wastewater utilities.
