Securing the Process is the Real Priority, Not the Network

JUNE 17 2026

This presentation takes a practical look at what cybersecurity really means inside water and wastewater control systems. Rather than focusing on abstract IT threats, it connects cyber risk directly to what SCADA and Operations personnel care about most, which is safeguarding water quality by keeping treatment plants and pump stations running, maintaining clear visibility into operations, and protecting critical equipment. We’ll discuss how simple, disciplined design choices including proper segmentation, controlled remote access, and solid documentation make the biggest difference in strengthening resilience. The goal is not to turn Engineers and Operators into IT specialists; it is to show how smart engineering decisions support reliable operations. Because in OT, you are protecting the process, not just the network.
