Seminar for Motor Design, Efficiency, and Reliability in W/WW Facilities

WEAT Events 2

Motors can consume as much as 80% of energy costs in both water and wastewater treatment plants, and they are often the second largest expense item (behind labor costs).

This in-person seminar covers motor basics such as motor nameplate data and motor applications. It reviews the design and operational differences between low-voltage (480V) motors and medium-voltage (4160V) motors. It explains the latest regulatory environment regarding motor efficiency ratings and discusses factors that can affect motor efficiency. Also, this seminar explains the mechanical aspects of motor/pump vibration, monitoring vibration, troubleshooting vibration issues, and potential remedies.

Topics include:

  • Motor ratings (voltage, full load amperage, service factor, starting torque, temperature rise, etc.);
  • Critical motor design considerations;
  • Differences in operation, economics, as well as other considerations, between low voltage motors and medium voltage motors;
  • Latest regulations related to motor efficiency, factors affecting operational efficiency, and impacts on operational costs; and
  • Best practices from design, construction, and operations in Water and Wastewater facilities

Speakers

  • James Janik – TECO/Westinghouse
  • Abel Cavazos – ABB
