The Field Technician I performs routine checks of water and/or wastewater treatment systems; responsible for compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local rules/regulations. Assist in all areas of operations, maintenance, and customer service as needed for all facility systems within the company. Certifications required for the job must be obtained within the specified period of time.

Under general direction, supervises and coordinates electrical activities in construction, maintenance, and repair of water and wastewater industrial equipment, electric power, lighting, treatment plants, and process-related equipment associated with medium and low voltage systems. This position reports to the Plant Maintenance Superintendent.

Under limited direction, assist the Senior Director of Utilities to plan, direct, manage and oversee the activities and operations of the Utilities department including administration, capital improvement program, operations and maintenance of water distribution and sewer collection systems, and Utility treatment plants; coordinate assigned activities with other city departments and outside agencies; provide highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Senior Director of Utilities; and perform other duties as assigned.

Section 1 – Position SummaryAssumes responsibility for working independently and exercising competent judgment in performing a variety of complex biological identifications and chemical analyses on water and wastewater samples.  Performs with high proficiency on all advanced laboratory instrumentation and uses knowledge of scientific methodology to develop more efficient procedures.  Supervises laboratory sections personnel to ensure chemical and biological analysis are performed timely and meet defined quality criteria.
