- Drought conditions in Texas have increased by 23%, according to TWDB's latest drought report. However, future reports are set to show a decrease in that contraction thanks to recent statewide rain.
- The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) ordered Orangefield Water Supply Corp. to pay $36,260 after 12 problems were found at its water treatment plant near Bridge City. Problems reported by the TCEQ included "broken equipment, grease and scum in the plant's tanks, and treated water with too little chlorine on one test." TCEQ set a 45-day deadline for such problems to be fixed.

- The East Texas Water Institute has been announced as a new resource for "addressing a broad gamut of major concerns," Charlie Glover, CEO of the T.L.L. Temple Foundation, announced October 5. A collaboration between Angelina College in Lufkin, Stephen F. Austin State University, and the T.L.L. Temple Foundation, the Institute is set to begin work in the spring of 2027.
Federal Investigators classified six dams in Texas, California, and Kansas as having a hazardous risk of overtopping. The Texas dams mentioned included the Canyon Dam in New Braunfels, the Whitney Dam in Waco, and the Somerville Dam. These dams are over 50 years old and require increased assessment and maintenance to avoid failure or misoperation that could fatally affect high populations living below.
New York City's mayor Zohran Mamdani welcomed the mayors of Barcelona, Rome, and Helsinki to tour new digesters at Hunts Point Wastewater Resource Recovery Facility. The $394.5 million project is in its final stages of construction and rounds out phase three of the facility's upgrade plan, which replaced facilities that are nearing the end of their useful life.
