Position Description

Under general direction, supervises and coordinates electrical activities in construction, maintenance, and repair of water and wastewater industrial equipment, electric power, lighting, treatment plants, and process-related equipment associated with medium and low voltage systems. This position reports to the Plant Maintenance Superintendent.

The duties listed below represent the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them if the work is related or a logical assignment to this class.

Troubleshoot electrical and/or electronic apparatus, motors, controls, and equipment by using schematics to ensure electrical power compatibility and safety of components.
Installs, repairs, and maintains various industrial and electrical equipment typically found in water/wastewater industries, such as control circuits, lighting circuits, motors, and switchgear for new, temporary, and existing construction, and ensures equipment conforms to electrical and safety codes.
Performs preventive maintenance work on electrical equipment and fixtures to detect electrical hazards.
Operate various water and/or wastewater treatment equipment as needed
Operate and maintain assigned motor vehicles.
Follow established safety policies, procedures, and protocols.
Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field.
Monitors and inspects work installing, maintaining, and repairing of electrical equipment to ensure compliance with the Electrical Code, city ordinances, OSHA regulations, and related standards.
Attend and participate in regularly scheduled operations, training, safety meetings/classes.
Prepare and maintain an inventory of spare parts needed to limit downtime of equipment included but not limited to fuses, starters, etc.
Maintain appropriate tools and required electrical troubleshooting equipment
Review and provide technical comments and feedback on new utility projects during construction meetings and plan review as required.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Salary

$67,313.95 - $96,595.52 Annually

Position Notes

Utilities Department team members are considered essential employees for the community and play a critical role in maintaining and restoring water and wastewater services during emergencies. Team members will be required to be reachable and ready to come to work immediately when a critical situation arises, like severe weather events, power outages, or significant equipment malfunctions, to help manage the response and minimize disruption to operations.

Position Minimum Experience

Education, Training, and Experience:

High School Diploma or GED
At least 5 years of experience in industrial or water/wastewater plant operations and electrical troubleshooting, installation, and maintenance
Licenses and Certificates:

A valid driver's license is required and must be maintained throughout employment.
Current possession of a valid Journeyman Electrician License issued by the state of Texas. Preference may be given to candidates with a Master Electrician License.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Water and Wastewater Operator "D" License from TCEQ within 18 months of employment.

Qualifications

Preferred Education

Scope of Responsibilities

Knowledge of:

General principles and theory of electricity and of safety regulations.
Wire sizes, color codes, and proper methods used in making splices and connections.
Occupational hazards and safety precautions.
SCADA and instrumentation systems.
Ability to:

Interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, laws, and regulations.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Work independently in the absence of supervision, or as part of a team with other maintenance personnel, contractors etc.
Interpret, explain, and enforce departmental policies and procedures.
Maintain accurate records of repair utilizing work order management software.
Read and interpret construction plans, wiring schematics specifications, and GIS data.
Plan long-range electrical maintenance programs.
Order equipment and ensure supplies and materials are available to complete repairs.
Interpret and explain city policies and procedures.
Prepare clear and concise reports. (Utilizing Microsoft Office Programs, such as Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.).
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Effectively use current computer software applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Ability to use hand and power tools, multi-meters, testers etc.
